Christy McKellen tell us about Her New Worst Enemy!

What's the next best thing to hearing one of your stories has been accepted for publication? Hearing that someone you know has just had a story published! So, I'm really thrilled to welcome Christy McKellen here today to tell us about her debut 'Her New Worst Enemy' - take it away Christy!!

Hi Susie, thanks so much for having me here today.

What makes someone a hero in your eyes?

I had some time to ponder this as I lay in bed recently with the flu, whilst my husband ran around keeping our three children fed, watered and entertained. He somehow also managed to field work calls, write contracts and generally be an ultra-smart, hyper organised CEO.

That’s a hero for you right there.

And the best thing was? He did it all with a smile on his face. He even gave me a huge hug after he’d held my hair while I vomited. Devotion. Dedication. Against the odds J That’s what I signed up for, and by god he delivered.

My hero Gideon in HNWE puts up with a lot from Ellie, the heroine, during their time at his manor house in the Cotswolds too. Her state of mind is very fragile when we first meet them and Gideon takes it upon himself to take care of her. He tells himself he owes it to her family to look out for her, but there’s actually an intrinsic goodness in him that he’s previously hidden for fear of being exploited or abandoned again. He wouldn’t have walked away, no matter what he told himself. Couldn’t have. Some people are heroes and there’s nothing they can do about it.

Being forced to take care of someone other than himself for once is what helped Gideon turn a corner in his life. To become the person he’d been hiding from all those years. It made him reassess how he felt about pretty much everything and his catalyst for change came from the most unexpected place. His best friend’s sister.

Has anything ever happened to you that made you look at your life from a different angle? I’d love to hear about it.

Blurb:

Six months ago Ellie Holdsworthy’s life was all planned out - kids, wedding, happy ever after - until her boyfriend dumped her for another woman. Now her best friend, Penny - an heiress to a small fortune - looks set to run off with a gold-digger, and Ellie is determined to save her from certain doom . Unfortunately, the only person who can help is the one person she’d rather not ask...

Little does Ellie know, persuading her brother’s best friend - commitment phobic, playboy businessman, Gideon DeLancy - to hold an intervention at his beautiful Georgian manor would be the easy part. Keeping her hands off him is a whole other matter.

Gideon doesn’t intend to fall for his friend's snarky sister, and he sure as hell doesn’t expect their weekend to develop into a full-on sex-fest. When passion takes a strangle-hold, their differences don’t seem to matter. After all, a torrid weekend affair should be the easiest thing in the world to walk away from, so why are they finding it so difficult...?

A saucy excerpt:
Gideon grasped her wrists and pulled them behind her body, pushing her breasts forwards even more. He held both wrists captive with one hand and pressed his body closer to her, trapping them. She gasped as the hardness of his erection pushed against the top of her buttocks.
“See how much you turn me on,” he whispered again into her ear, his eyes not leaving hers in the reflection.
His other hand came round and cupped the weight of one of her breasts, and as he rubbed his thumb gently over her nipple it hardened in response, making her draw in a sharp breath.
Blood pounded between her legs causing a hard ache of need, and she pushed her buttocks against him, loving the feeling of his obvious arousal for her.
As she stared back at the mirror she was amazed to see how different she looked now. Her breasts were high and full pushed forward and with her pelvis tipped back, her stomach seemed flatter and tighter. For the first time in a very long time she looked at her body, really looked at it, and liked what she saw.
Gideon’s fingers moved to flick over her other nipple, sending another pulse of feeling down through her body.
“You see,” he said, kissing along the top of her shoulder. “Gorgeous.”
He released his hold on her captured wrists and ran his fingers across where her collar bones pushed against her flesh, to the dip of her neck, then skimmed down over her breasts, down her stomach to the top of her jeans.
He pulled the buttons roughly open and slipped his hands inside, under her panties, before pushing them down over her legs.
“Step out of them,” he murmured, and she did as she was told. She was now standing naked in front of a mirror. In front of Gideon.
“Bend forward and put your hands against the mirror,” he said.
“What?” Her voice was shaky and light with arousal.
“Just do it, Ellie,” he said, kicking her clothes away from them.

  2. Hi Susie and Christy. Great post and congrats again on HNWE Christy. As for hero/hubby, I can totally relate to what you said. A couple of weeks before Christmas I had the dreaded noro virus and hubby had to take time off his work to look after me, the kids, the dogs, the house, you name it. True hero :-)

    1. Hi Samantha. Your husband sounds like a star! It's so easy to take each other for granted isn't it? And so lovely when you realise your lovely husband has your back. We should have a 'Fab Husband Appreciate Day' :)

    2. Very true, Christy. Generally you all just plod along don't you...and like you say, take each other for granted. Times like this make you realise just that and to appreciate them each and every day eh? :-)

  3. Congrats Christy. As for your question does being repentant after being immersed in writing and nearly ignoring your family count? Thankfully I'm finding balance now.
    Thanks Susie!

    1. It's so tricky getting that balance isn't it. I still haven't worked out the magic formula, but I'm working on it. Thanks for stopping by Ruchita x
